They say a picture paints a thousand words, and we agree – a powerful image has the potential to connect with people like nothing else. It takes something really special to stop someone in their tracks, and that’s what our Image & Motion team strives to do with every image – whether it’s a pocket eyeshadow, or a glamorous on-location shoot.
Here, Bec examines the team’s approach to image-making, and shares some proud examples from the Fluid archives…
Capturing a feeling
You don’t need a fancy location to capture a feeling. You just need real moments, with real people (even if they are models).
Forget over-staging and looking-at-the-camera poses. The ‘good stuff’ happens when the subjects don’t sense the camera’s presence, when they’re left to improvise within a scenario and really ‘live it’.
The ‘reportage’ photography style is often seen in high-end wedding photography, and can bring a real authenticity when creating photo sets for brands. The style can be arresting, and encourages audiences to connect to a genuine feeling or sentiment, and can help build a stronger brand affinity.
Here you can see that approach translating across photography for a retirement living brand, an estate agent, and a nursery chain.
A product less ordinary
What do these photos of a glamorous cocktail and a shimmering cosmetic primer have in common? Aside from being a technical challenge to shoot, they’ve both benefitted from a creative approach to styling.
Take the drink for example. Our client wants to sell units of their alcohol-free tipple. Granted, a photo of a bottle of fizz would look really nice. But poured into a fancy glass with some blackberries and mint, and arranged into a composition, it looks positively enticing.
We don’t just ‘shoot’ products, we craft scenes that make those products look incredible – whether you’re showcasing them on an online web store, or using them as part of a print campaign. We bring our clients’ products to life.
The not-so-corporate headshot
Building connection is the aim of any good brand - and that extends not only to consumers, but to those people working for a brand. We believe company culture is intrinsically linked to brand, so the way a business presents its people is vitally important.
By showcasing our clients’ people in a relaxed and approachable way, we can humanise brands and help build consumer-connection. So forget cold and sterile point-and-click headshots in the back office. Say hello to carefully-curated locations, relaxed employees loving their roles and a photoset that is unique to your brand.
And the out-right fun to do
From spooky halloween-themed shoots, to movie-magic inspired photography, we’ve been able to get stuck into our fair share of creative shoots, which involves just as much effort in the post-production as it does in the initial photoshoot. Our team of CGI artists help to add the finishing touches to shots like these…
