Vicky in the Fluid studio

Hello, I’m Vicky, one of the social-first designer and animators at Fluid.  No week at Fluid is the same for me – one minute I could be designing an infographic to support a PR campaign, and the next I could be filming and directing a wacky TikTok video.

Monday

I usually start the day working from home on a Monday. We always have a team meeting at 9am to go through our work management software Asana and sort through the week’s priorities. We also discuss any social trends we’ve seen over the weekend and how we might implement them for our clients.

Today, I’m adapting the various poses the CGI team have created for EMR’s mascot Miles into organic posts for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

By 4pm, my cats usually come to bother me for their dinner so I have to shut them out of the room I’m in so I can concentrate. I settle into preparing one of my Younity storyboards for animating by separating the various layers and exporting them.

Tuesday

Only one meeting for me today so I get into a good design flow. I’m using my creative, if-a-bit-wacky brain to design adverts for Interpart to provide them with some organic content to advertise their various alternative JCB parts.

They’ve always been open to out-of-the-ordinary approaches for their audience on social media content, which means we get to use a more tongue-in-cheek tone, and deliver such lines as: 'This O-ring oil cooler can also be used in a garden ring toss game!', 'Not seen on TV' and 'This panoramic mirror is a great addition to your telehandler… or failing that, your pet budgie will love it!' – there's never a dull moment! This might seem like overtly playful content, but with a blended organic strategy, it's proven to boost engagement, which ensures our more strategic and sales-focused content is favoured by the algorithm, and ultimately appears in front of a much wider audience.

In the afternoon, Grace and I brainstorm content ideas for Coach Hire Comparison’s TikTok account, and we sift through what memes and templates could benefit them and grow their profile.

Wednesday

Wednesdays are usually relatively busy in the studio as the Search & Social team all come in to have our weekly meeting to go through the main projects that we’re focussing on, and our ‘wins’ and ‘challenges’ for the week.

Today is quite exciting as I get to relish in one of my passions – stop-motion animation. Myself, Nick and Jaime are creating stop-motion ads for ZeroZilchZip, focussing on their popular product Days Pale Ale. This is where I get to put my metaphorical crafting hat on and create sets and pops to support the product. As Jaime films/snaps each frame, Nick and I move the various props into the scenes. We’re really happy with how it turned out.

Vicky's neurodiversity themed Lunch & Learn

Thursday

Today is probably more different than any other day I’ve ever had at Fluid, as I was given the opportunity to host a Lunch & Learn session to everyone in the studio that day (20 is a pretty decent audience in my opinion)!

Lunch & Learn is a monthly event at Fluid, and my session was all about neurodiversity – what it is, what it isn’t, and how we can be more neurodiverse-friendly as an agency. To make the presentation more engaging, I included toy props, a facts vs stigmas box, and kitchen cutlery to illustrate an analogy.

Although I’d prepared weeks in advance for this, I was pretty nervous about presenting, and even more nervous about sharing my ADHD diagnosis with all of my colleagues. I needn’t have worried. Everyone was so engaged and interested in everything I had to say, and they were so supportive and some even felt comfortable enough to share their own neurodiversity stories.

To wind down after the excitement of the Lunch & Learn, a work social nicely coincided in the evening – the Fluid film night. This month’s film was chosen at random from a number of music-themed suggestions submitted by the film enthusiasts in our team, and we were treated to a 90s cult classic: Spice World. One of our designers, Jess J had never seen it before, and this was the first (and probably also the last) time she would watch it – sorry Jess!

Friday

More organic content was needed for the Steven Brown Art social accounts, and fortunately, I am the proud owner of a Steven Brown tiger tote bag, so I did a little photoshoot with the cats.

At 11am, we had our regular Fluid 'chit-chat’ meeting, where the whole team convenes to share and highlight any exciting projects in the pipeline, or any culture updates like socials, events and useful wellbeing tips.

As mentioned in other week-in-the-life-of blogs, I also like to indulge in the various takeaway runs on a Friday. It’s a great way to end a busy week and wind down into the weekend.
